What are Scrum Ceremonies and their Types?
Scrum is a management process that breaks down large-scale projects into achievable chunks. The idea of Scrum is to divide the whole project into small "sprints" that are completed within a very short period. For every sprint, the team meets up for a meeting called a "scrum ceremony".
The CertifiedScrum Master is the one who oversees making sure that the team follows the
Scrum process. The most important task for a Scrum Master is ensuring that the
team has a clear understanding of what they need to do next.
There are four
core ceremonies in Scrum. These are Sprint Planning, Daily stand-up, Sprint
Review, and Sprint Retrospectives.
The daily
stand-up meeting is where all team members get together with their respective CertifiedScrum Product Owner and discuss what they did since the last meeting and
what they intend to do by the end of this day's work session. It also helps
with identifying any impediments or potential risks that might arise during
this time.
What is Sprint
Planning?
A sprint is a
timeboxed work cycle for creating an increment of a product. A sprint duration
of one month to two months long and always starts on Monday morning, so it always
has four weeks in total.
During the sprint
planning meeting, the team prioritizes items for implementation based on their
relative value to the company's goals and aims for this iteration. But they
also must consider various factors such as how many hours are needed to
complete tasks or what dependencies exist between tasks.
What is Daily Stand-Up?
The daily
stand-up is when team members and project managers work together to clarify
their accomplishments and progress.
The Daily
Stand-Up meeting is a timeboxed meeting that usually lasts less than 15
minutes. It is the most common type of status meeting used in agile software development.
The Daily Stand-Up Meeting ensures that everyone on the team knows what
everyone else is working on, what issues have been identified, how progress has
been made, and what to do next.
What is Sprint
Review?
Sprint reviews
are meetings that happen at the end of each sprint to review the work done in
that sprint and plan for the next sprint. These meetings must be held regularly
to ensure everyone on the team is on the same page and knows what is coming
next.
The meeting
should be scheduled at least once a week but can be held more often if needed.
Sprint reviews should last no more than 30 minutes. Otherwise, people will lose
their attention span.
What are
Sprint Retrospectives?
Sprint
Retrospectives help teams to improve continuously. They do this by looking back
at past sprints and doing a post-mortem on what went well and what did not go
well in the past sprints. Then, they come up with solutions and ideas for
improvement for future sprints.
A CertifiedScrum Master (CSM) is an expert in agile software development principles
and practices, including Scrum or Kanban. A Certified Scrum Master
facilitates Scrum events, including Sprint Planning, Daily Scrums, Stand-ups,
Reviews, Retrospectives. They also serve as a business representative on the
Scrum Team's Cross-Functional Team that has been assembled to plan the team's
work.
