 It takes a lot of work and effort, but it is possible to go from being a Certified Scrum Master to becoming an Agile Coach.

If you have been practicing as a Certified Scrum Master for some time now, you might be wondering how long it will take for you to become an Agile Coach. Well, let's take a quick look at the process involved in becoming an Agile Coach.

A Certified Scrum Master (CSM) has the skills and knowledge that will get them to success. However, if they're not careful, they might become bored with their job and lose motivation. A CSM can go from the role of a CSM to becoming an Agile Coach by learning a new skill in a different field. Some CSMs choose an alternative career in agile coaching after they finish their scrum master certification training program.

In my opinion, it takes about six months to go from Certified Scrum Master to becoming an Agile Coach. However, there are aspects of the Agile coaching practice that make it different from Scrum Master certification. So, if you decide to become an Agile coach, you should take some time to learn about these unique aspects of the profession.

The role of an agile coach is very different than the role of a certified scrum master. It would help if you learned unique skillsets to be successful as an agile coach, like facilitation and facilitating group dynamics.

There are multiple ways to transition into becoming a professional agile coach, like learning on your own or enrolling into a formal training program like experience-based training or formal education programs like academic degrees.

The Final Thoughts

To ensure the success of your career, it is important to identify your strengths and weaknesses first. Suppose you are passionate about the idea of coaching. In that case, you should focus on building leadership skills and upgrading other soft skills first before taking up a coaching position later in life.

It takes six months for an aspiring coach to become competent in Agile methodology and its core principles like Scrum framework, Kanban board, sprints that they teach others.
